Post a long wait to update my passport details for the purpose of…

Reported on August 13, 2014 from Mumbai , Maharashtra  ι Report #42809

Post a long wait to update my passport details for the purpose of renewal, I was asked twice by the officer in charge if I feel like giving him something. At first I pretended to not hear, but when asked for the second time, not sure what go into me and I removed a Rs.100 note and handed it over to him.

Whether it was a fear of not getting my file cleared or to wait all over again for hours for the repeat process, I did a mistake of heeding to his strange request and gave him money.

Please note that the money was not asked upfront, but more towards the end. There was not threat that my application will get stuck, but at the end of the tiring day (Sunday that too), I do understand the officer might ask for some 'good will', but its still a procedure which I have already paid Rs.1500. A civilian will fear a repeat of this and may heed to such requests, but its not fair to play on such fears too right?

This was at the Kandivali (East), Samata Nagar Police Station's passport verification desk.
