Paid Rs. 200 for Police verification

Reported on August 23, 2011 from Mumbai , Maharashtra  ι Report #4010

I paid Rs 200 at the Mulund west police station for passport verification. On the day when I was called to the police station for verification, I had carried all the required documents. After verifying the documents, the police inspector asked me to pay a bribe of Rs 200. This money was not directly paid to him. He gave me a form, and asked me to get certain number of photocopies. He then told me that I should mention his name and my name at the photocopy shop next to the police station. I think the number of copies was a code for the photocopy shop as to the amount that I needed to pay. I went to the shop, got the photocopy, paid the bribe, and mentioned both my name and the inspector's name. The shop person noted all the details. I checked with a few other people who were getting photocopies, and seems this is the normal modus operandi of the police people.
