I am writing this mail to bring to your notice how I was asked to…
- Police
- Police Verification for Passport
- Paid INR 400
I am writing this mail to bring to your notice how I was asked to pay a bribe for Police Verification for Passport at Shivaji Nagar Police station 4th Floor on 21st September 2014.
My police verification happened in 3 steps:
1. An officer came to my house on 20th September morning to verify my place of residence and called me to the police station the next day ie 21st September Sunday with a set of xerox copies of my documents.
2. I reached the Shivaji Nagar, Mumbai police station on 4th Floor at 10 am with the xerox copies. When the process seemed to be over he asked me for a bribe of Rs 1000 to clear my verification. I informed him that Im a student and do not have the said amount with me after which he started talking very rudely with me as though i had commited a crime. He said even 400 would do. I went home and brought the amount, he got very upset since he thought that i had gone home to bring the complete amount ie Rs 1000. He was angry because of it and took the Rs 400 and said it may create problems in my verification process. i later spoke to 3 other people outside the Police station who had also come for police verification and he had asked everyone to pay Rs 1000 for verification.
3. I got a call this morning to Report to the police station with my Aadhar card and Voter ID card for the verification in front of "Bade Sahab".
Now im i feel this so called "Bade Saheb" will again ask for money. IS it that the goverment has stopped paying them because the way they ask it, it looks like its their birthright to ask for a bribe and if you are not in a position to shell out that kind of money(you shouldnt in first place but then at that point you dont have much of an option either) they treat you like you have committed a crime by not being able to pay them a bribe
