Vijayakanthan’s complaint on IPaidABribe regarding a bribe-seeking officer was forwarded to his senior, who demanded an explanation from the erring officer.
Vijayakanthan posted a complaint on IPaidABribe on February 2, 2015 alleging that Revenue Collector for ward 28, Kanikaraj who works under the jurisdiction of Maruthisevanagar Revenue office, had collected a bribe from him towards Katha Transfer, but had not done the work.
He alleged that Rs 2,000 was collected from him and he was not issued any receipt for it. He was further asked to pay Rs 500 in favour of ARO Maruthisevanagar for which a receipt was issued.
Vijayakanthan further alleged that he was harassed when he visited the office to ask reasons for the delay in the work.
IPaidABribe forwarded the complaint to Sarvajnanagar Revenue Officer, who asked Kanikraj to explain his actions and warned that disciplinary measures will be taken against him if he was found guilty, in a letter dated 13/5/2015.
Kanikraj in his reply in a letter dated 28/5/2015 refuted the allegations that he demanded or collected bribe. He further said that he had collected only Rs 500 and issued a receipt for the same. The Katha Transfer Letter was issued within a week of Vijayakanthan paying the fee, said Kanikraj.
Kanikraj in his response further said that he contacted Vijayakanthan on telephone and informed him to collect his letter.
