The Bombay High Court has ordered the demolition of Adarsh Housing Society, the Mumbai apartment which became centre of a political and bureaucratic corruption issue.

The court has given the housing society twelve weeks to appeal to the Supreme Court against the order. The HC has also ordered an inquiry against politicians, ministers and officers who were involved in the Adarsh Housing Society scam.

Former Maharashtra CM Ashok Chavan who quit after being accused of being involved in the scam refused to comment on the court order saying, "I don't want to react on the court judgement."

YP Singh petitioner and lawyer in the case said, "There are 2 type of cases in Adarsh . The first one was related to the demolition of the building, very happy that we have won the case. Regarding the second part,we're confident that corrupt government servants and politicians will be sent to jail under PMLA."

The housing society was built for Kargil war veterans and widows, however, the apartments were cheaply given to politicians, ministers, and bureaucrats.

Former CM Chavan's three relatives had been given the apartment in the 31-storey building.

Centre had ordered the demolishment of the building in 2011. But the society's lawyer had challenged the order in court.
