Congress demands independent probe in MP exam scam

New Delhi, June 29 (IANS) The Congress Sunday demanded an independent investigation under the auspices of the apex court into the Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board scam.

The scam is related to recruitment in various government jobs.

"We demand a thorough, independent and completely dispassionate investigation into the MP exam scam with a time frame. There should be an SIT investigation ideally under the Supreme Court, or at the minimum, the high court," Congress spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi told media persons here.

Congress leader Shakeel Ahmad alleged that 139 phone calls were made from Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan's residence to an accused in the case who is in jail.

"Why should so many calls be made from the chief minister's residence to an accused in the scam? This hints at the chief minister's complicity. He should resign at once," Ahmad demanded.

BJP spokesperson Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi rubbished the Congress allegations, saying "lies" propagated by the grand old party would dent its image further.

"The Congress is pulling out one fresh lie every day. Every day they have a new allegation, new story. This will only ruin whatever is left of their reputation," Naqvi said.
