Bribe asked for Professional Tax regn.
My wife had to open a Sole proprietorship firm. We went to the Prof. Tax office. The concerned officer was courteous and helped us fill the forms. On paying the fees, he seemed to indicate he needed a bribe. We ignored it and went back home. After a week or so, we called up and checked - we were told that the regn. certificate is ready and can be collected. When I went to collect the regn. certificate, the officer again asked if I had paid anything other than the fees. I just said "No, I haven't", signed and collected the certificate and left the premises. He did not press for the bribe.But the fact that he was expecting a bribe, made me lose all respect for him. However,I was happy I did not do the unethical & illegal act of paying a bribe.
