Caught for Expired PUC - Was asking 500/- to settle the issue.

Reported on April 11, 2014 from Mumbai , Maharashtra  ι Report #40484

I was on my way for the nearby garden on my two wheeler. A policeman signalled me to get on one side and asked for name address phone number. He then asked for licence, registration papers, etc. Knowing this as a regular check up, I promptly handed over all the documents and then the problem started.

My PUC was expired and frankly speaking I was unaware of it. It had expired just 9 days back.
The policeman on the duty asked me to pay fine, to which I said, I will make the PUC today itself.
He didn't budge and said the fine is Rs. 1000/- and asked me for 500/- to settle the issue right there.

Hearing this, I asked him to get my licence collected because I was determined that I won't pay a single penny to this jerk. He was surprised and said it will take at least 8-10 days to get your licence back and then don't tell me take 100-200 and settle it.

I refused and said get it collected give me a challan. He said you have to come with me to the traffic police station and they will issue you the challan and you will have to pay full fine of 1000/-. I agreed to this, and he sat pillion to me and we went there. The traffic officer on duty issued me a challan but here too the Policeman who accompanied me said to put a section of NO PUC.
(Here I thought Expired PUC is as good as NO PUC, and so I didn't pay much attention to it)

I went back after two days and having got good enough information from your website and the similar story of one guy from Dombivli, I claimed that I was targeted for issuing wrong challan.
The traffic cop on the duty was a nice guy by the way, he changed it back to CMVR 115/177 MVA for which the legal fine is Rs. 100/-

I paid the fine and I got the receipt.

Conclusion: Mumbai Police is the most corrupt I ever saw. They are not the protectors of the law, instead they can be easily termed as the White Robbers of India.

Thanks for this website, I am now all the more determined to stop this bribe culture.
