Didn't pay bribe for Marriage Certificate!

Reported on February 15, 2011 from Bangalore , Karnataka  ι Report #32554

I went to the Banashankari Sub Registrar office (Bangalore South) to get my marriage registered and to obtain a certificate for the same. From my friends I came to know that the usual bribe amount was Rs. 500 (Which I was never willing to pay!!). Did some research and found that the actual cost to get your marriage registered is Rs. 115 only! I went to the sub registrar office, finished with the formalities and while issuing the certificate, the clerk in a soft tone said "Pay Rs. 350".. I promptly took Rs. 120 from my pocket (I didn't had a 5 rupee change!) and gave.. the face of the clerk was worth to watch. :) I even asked his to return Rs. 5 and with a stiff tone he said "I dont have change". LOL. But the sad part was he didn't issue any receipt (though I insisted).

Moral of the story:
1. Have courage
2. Know the actual amount you need to pay before going
3. Have all the required documents with you
