Escaped a police looking out for someething extra

Reported on June 13, 2011 from Kolkata , West Bengal  ι Report #31886

It was 11.20 pm at night in my bike and i was late from office.
There was almost no traffic on the road. In a crossing I saw the signal red and a few traffic police were there. The road was empty but to respect the traffic signal i stopped. I saw one of the officers moving towards me but i didnt budge, thinking that i was right. Meanwhile another bike came and stood beside me (seeing me observe the traffic). The inspector came and asked me.. 'where is the line?' I said i cant see any line.. the signal red so i stopped. He just told me 'line is 3 feet behind you. give me your license and you too give your license'. The other guy accelerated his bike and zoomed away. The police moved away from me to catch the other bike and I too zoomed away from his sight leaving him behind with no extra cash... :)

* the max fine for breaking traffic is 100 rs. and if you pay that in bank its around 120 with bank fees. people generally get away bribing 50rs but not always. The cops now ask for rs20 extra for the bank charges in case you pay cash, though they are not supposed to do that in case of spot fine. If you dont they will ask you to pay through bank and thats a lot of fuss and costs the same. In that way people think they are not getting bribe but in fact they are.
