Property Registrar and builder tie-up
Residential property developers have a process where they ask their customers to pay "Documentation Fees" for registration of their property with the registrars. The fees can vary based on the location and value of the property, I had to pay Rs. 7000/-. Obviously, I do not get a receipt for this "documentation fees" from the builder or any other receipts from the government that account towards Rs. 7000/- or what ever amount I paid. It is evident that a large portion of this amount goes to the registrar office and there is a tie-up between the registrar offices and the builders to support corruption. This is widespread and known issue across Mumbai and Maharashtra as well as other states and those who have gone through the process of property registration will acknowledge this fact.
