Shameless demand for bribe for Passport Verification
Hi Comrades,
I had to visit the Charkop Police Station, Kandivali (W), Mumbai for Passport verification of my 2 month old daughter. Since its not very convenient to go with her, I called up the officer in the morning and asked him if its mandatory to get her and he told me that It is fine if you come alongwith the documents. I visited the police station in the evening and he verified all the documents and everything was fine uptil now. When I started winding up, the office shamelessly tells me that "Kahi tari payment karava lagel (You need to pay something." I was shocked at his audacity. I was wondering how could he muster so much courage to ask for a bribe so fearlessly. Then he started that I have to xerox these documents and take them to the passport office and all. I told him that this is wrong and he is like you decide what you want to do. Then, he asks me to get photocopies for some of his documents. I went downstairs to get the photocopies done. When I come back, he has pulled out all the verification forms for minors and he shows me that parents should have signed over here but since you people have not signed, your passport would not be cleared. I told him that I can sign right away and he says No, now this will go back to the passport office since you dont want to pay anything. I just said ok and left the place. Although I am very worried about my daughter's passport getting delayed unnecessarily, I am happy that I didnt succumb and choose the softer option. ********** **********
