On 19th April 2014 at 2.10 pm, I was at Andheri West, Near RTO Signal which goes towards Model Town. A traffic police constable named B.G. Bhabad, H.C. 434, DN Nagar Div (Traffic) stopped me and said that I had jumped the signal and he will let me go if i pay him something. I had not jumped the signal and I told him that he should check the video camera at the signal and confirm. I had crossed the signal while the light was still green.
I refused to pay him, he said "give me Rs 50, I will let you go." However, I refused to pay any bribe and I told him I was not wrong. He said either you pay now or I will not leave you at all. He said I will charge you with other sections for arguing with police, non co-operation (Section 179) and Dangerous Driving (Section 184) along with Signal jumping (Section 239). He said I have the option of paying him something and finishing the matter here itself. However, if I don't pay I may have my Driving License suspended or will have to pay huge fine since he will charge me with these sections. He confiscated my license and gave me a slip to appear in court and then said still if you want, you can pay me Rs 200 and settle the matter. This would save me the agony of going to the court and paying a larger fine. He said he will present all proof in court such as his colleague there to testify that I have committed these crimes, while I totally did not do anything, only refused to pay a bribe to him.
