Varkala Municipality - Widespread Corruption
I am a foreign national owning land through a tourism development company in Varkala. The approval for my building has been withheld by Varkala Municipality even after the Municipal Court ordered immediate action. I was asked Rs 6,00,000 by a Member of the Council to get it cleared. He approached me several times, and I have always said no. He says that is the only way things happen in this Municipality. The rate is higher than normal, because I am a foreigner!
