Dear Sir, My name is Tanuj. I applied for a new passport on 11 Feb 2011. After 3 days I was called to our local police station for verification. I went and submitted all the necessary documents.

Reported on March 14, 2011 from Bangalore , Karnataka  ι Report #33819

Dear Tanuj,

I congratulate you for having stood up against paying a bribe. I would suggest that you make a written complaint about this case to the vigilance authorities mentioned in the website of the Ministry of External affairs at http://passport.gov.in/

The status of your application can also be checked there. Please also file an RTI application with the Passport office to find out what has happened to your application. Please mention to the police that you know your rights and that you will complain to higher authorities if they demand a bribe. There are several instances reported in our -I didnt pay a bribe section where citizens have successfully resisted demands for bribes for the issue of passports and for the police verification. It is only if we stand up and be firm about not paying a bribe, that things will change.

There have been bribe reports where people have resisted paying a bribe for their passports. However, after a long wait, they did receive their passports. We pay bribes to quicken the process. I would suggest if you are in no hurry, you could wait for the passport .

What is your reaction after reading this report?
