My wife and I applied for our passports at the Bangalore passport office on July 23.
Just two days later, a police constable, one Mr. Range Gowda, came by. He asked us to get a letter from the neighbour and submit it at the nearby Sanjay Nagar police station. He did not linger on; as soon as he had given his message, he left.
On Aug 26, we went to the Sanjay Nagar police station and submitted the letter. The people on duty, Constable Range Gowda (the passport writer) and Inspector Prabhu Shankar (the station chief) , were courteous and quick in accepting our letter, and they said they would send the "police verification report" the same day. They did not prolong the conversation in any way — not the slightest hint of wanting a bribe.
And today, on Aug 2, our passports have already arrived.
It is always heartening to see an honest policeman. We commend Mr. Range Gowda and Mr. Prabhu Shankar, and we hope we will find more such officers in our society.
