A feel good episode

Reported on September 26, 2010 from Bangalore , Karnataka  ι Report #33289

About a week back in bannerghatta road, Bangalore I took a 'U' turn at a traffic junction which is prohibited.
Was promptly flagged down by waiting cop and was taken to the Inspector, who asked me to pay the fine and was entering my details in his blackberry and when he came to know I was a doctor (from my name), he asked where I work, and I told him my hospital name (A big corporate hospital ), which incidentally treats all police men (ABYA scheme) at very nominal rates, while most hospitals much smaller and less equipped refuse to do so.
He immediately apologised and said why I didnot tell this before (he had alraedy entered the details in balck berry), and that I would not have had to pay the same.
I told him I knew he would most likely let me go (had I mentioned my identity), but told him I did so as I had committed a mistake, he had done his duty and i was happy to pay for my mistake. He said (still apologetically), that if more people had this attitude, we would have less problems.
things I learnt from this episode.
1. Many if not majority of traffic cops just do their duty honestly (on weekend, saturday at 8 pm these two cops were doing their duty), while most of us are relaxing with our families.
2. Most of us (when caught for a violation), think as to how to escape, either by citing connections, or by bribing our way out of trouble.
3. The 100 Rs, fine I gave that night still makes me feel good, not miserable like it would have had I talked my way through.
My point is, it is equally important to highlight the good things in the system whenever we follow it and not just the negative things which always attracts more attention and I also wanted to highlight the role, we as citizens play in this murky world of corruption, we are the other hand and it takes two to clap.
