Hurra! got the work done using the proceedure and did not have to payany extra money !
Recently I went to electricity company office to get my meter transferred from Housing society name to my name as the owner of the apartment. Initial visit I asked for the proceedure and requested them to write on a piece of paper various docs required and against each got the cost also. Whilegiving details the staff said there may be a need to pay someting for the engineer when they come to verufy the meter if your work has to be done next day! So I said will see what has to be done and left the place. Following day armed myself with all the encessary docs went to the nearest EB looking for the engineer and he agreed to come and visit that day around noon for verification and gave my mobile no, while collecting his. To my surprise he came promptly as promised and called and did the job and left . I wondered if this was the prelude by the other staff or this fellow felt uncomfortable to ask! Either way I was happy not to part any money which I was determined. When I too the docs along with his approved and signed form next day to the office, the fellow who gave me details was surprised I was there with alldocs and even ignoring him went to his boss to get it verified and returned the papers. Now he did not tell me it was late to pay my fees & so suggested he takes responsibility and does it for me. I gave the funds and took his mobile number nad thanked him and told his boss what ha sbeen done for that day and thanked and returned. I called twice afte rthat and to my surprise he had kept the leeter and receiot ready after 4 days and asked me to pick up. Still no sign of asking any money. I collected the same and promptly thanked them. It was a pleasant surprise that they did not ask and so I was immensly happy, except that I have to say, I had to go personally and chase the paper movements! I just wonder hw many can afford to do this if they are workingor aged or for other reasons. Since i have a flexi working life I managed and got my work done without paying a single paise bribe. This surprised my apaprtment mates and the association memmbers who had apparntly paid big amounts! to get their meters transferred in their names.
