Painful experience, but honest folks..

Reported on March 24, 2011 from Bangalore , Karnataka  ι Report #33140

The boards at the Electronic City RTO say the office opens at 10.00 am, but the folks there told me it actually opens at 10.30. I wonder if that 30 minutes is "unofficial". Though there were a couple of guys diligently working at their files at 10 am.

The official I was supposed to hand over my file to came in about 11.00 am. He took my application and did a cursory check of the entires, asked me to show my original driver licence, passport and visa and scribbled something on the application. He asked me to go down and pay the Rs.500 as the fee. Despite my best attempts, I could not get a smile out of him.

The guy at the cash counter was busy chatting with a female colleague and asked me to wait till he finished his conversation.

I was then asked to join a queue to get the Asst. RTO to sign on my file. I waited in queue while folks from various driving schools cooly walked in ahead of me with their clients. Protests did not help. What the purpose of meeting the Asst. RTO was, I do not know as he did not even look up at me as he signed.

I went back to the gentleman who had checked my documents, and he asked me to come the next day to collect the Permit, though the website says that the permits can be collected the same day.

I did go the next day, and was made to wait for another 30 minutes while the big boss inside (The RTO) signed on my permit.

I spent 3.5 hours in the office there for something which, with a bit of streamlining, could have been done in 30 minutes. I cannot help but wonder if this painful experienc is to encourage people to just give up and pay someone to do it in a way that will be less time consuming and painful.

I remain a sceptic on honesty in government offices.
