We were starting up a retail shop and needed to get a trade license from corporation as the first step. Since we had a very bad experience earlier for the same at another location nearby we were a bit skeptical. But here it was very clear, they have rates for each purpose for each method. For a trade license without inspection it cost us 5000 (though we were clean, the license cost us just 500). We knew that if they come and inspect they'll charge us more and harass us in whichever way possible and try to delay the procedure also.
Earlier we had paid 3500 and our stock worth another 500 - 600 for a trade license of just 300 AND had to literally keep begging them to get it done for more than 8 months and somehow managed to get it done on the last minute. This story will be shared by at least 10-15 shop owners in the same building.
Being young we definitely do not want to encourage this kind of corruption. We basically wanted to stand on our own and provide employment to another 4-5 youngsters which our government is finding hard to do. But starting new ventures is a BIG HEADACHE in Kerala with corruption in every nook and corner. In fact there'll be more people who are corrupted here than others. We seriously hope steps would be taken against them so that the young generation will be free of this dangerously contagious disease.
