After 35 years of service, my father is having to bribe officials at each step to get his pension started

Reported on December 10, 2012 from Ranchi , Jharkhand  ι Report #279

Hello,

My father retired as a proffessor from Ranchi University in 2011. He was in service for 35 years with various colleges under Ranchi University. Now he has to visit university everyday to ensure that his retirement documents are moving smoothly through different approving authorities (tables as they call it) even after paying bribe to various people. His pension has not stated till date. Also, he will have to spend another 5,000 to 10,000 to get his pension arrear.

This is the way you get treated after working for 35 years for the state government in India. In todays world this should be a week's job at the most, but administrative services in education department have deviced such gridlocks that once a person has to get work done he will have to pay money and wait for mercy of corrupt officials.

God help my father.
