Bribe TO file FIR -

Reported on October 7, 2010 from Bangalore , Karnataka  ι Report #30363

On the specified day, my bike was stolen and I went to the police station to file the FIR. My house is around 700meters from the Police station on the main road itself. The police person who was supposed to prepare the FIR, told me very generously, do not call any auto as they will charge more, as he got a bike and will take me in his bike to the crime spot. I was so relieved to see his response. But as soon as we started he took the bike to the adjacent petrol bunk and filled petrol for 300 rupees in his bike and asked me to pay for it. When I asked why should I, he said, I am coming for your personal need and if I don't fill it, he will make my life miserable. As i had to submit the report to the insurance company within 48 hours, I had no other option than give him the money as i knew they will make me roam around as I was not from Karnataka. They made me wait 2 full day and finally after spending 2 whole days in the police station requesting for the report, they somehow gave me a acknowledgment of FIR being filed and told it is sufficient to give it to the insurance company as of now. After that, i was made to come to the police station for minimum 30 times to collect my FIR, and finally after 10 days or so, I got my FIR that too I was made to pay another 200 to the writer to get it delivered. Else again they would have delayed is stating its not ready.

Personally I am totally against bribing, But I didnt have any other option there as they would have made my life miserable knowing that i am working in an private company and It will be difficult for me to come to the police station every now and then as they ask me to come. Luckily I was in night shifts so whenever they asked me to go there, I was there.. and then they saw me there on time, they used to tell come after sometime... So they made me roam for 2 weeks and tested all my patience and finally got their money. I even thought of leaving it as it is as i was fed up of all these. But then I realized, If i dnt file a FIR then it will be difficult if someone does any crime with my bike and it is caught. So I had to get the FIR. I really pity my country for getting corrupted this way and I know it is an impossible task to get it stabilized as each and every system is corrupted here which are interlinked. If we try to normalize one, the others would make our life miserable as they know that it will cut down their Bribed salary!
God bless India
