Bribe for lane cutting

Reported on December 3, 2010 from Mumbai , Maharashtra  ι Report #29624

Paying bribe to traffic cops must be quite common in a city like Mumbai.
I was travelling from Pune to Mumbai (car is pune registration). While entering the Western Express highway, I was caught for a traffic violation called lane cutting. (In the previous signal, I was in the first lane and I had moved to the second lane). This did not seem like any sort of violation to me.
I was asked for my license and the cop took the same and started walking away. Then I had to go behind in the car in one corner under the bridge. Finally after some talking, I had to give a bribe of Rs. 50 to get back my license.
