Bribe paid after being misled by Police

It happened on the NH-1, Panipat (on bridge).
I don't even know if i was overspeeding or not. The penalty for overspeeding on NH-1 is Rs. 400/- and you don't have to go to court. The policeman told me that penalty is Rs.1500/- and your license will be with police until you appear in Panipat court. He asked to pay Rs. 1000/- and get away. Finally, i paid him Rs. 500/-. I wish i knew that he was misleading me.
