Bribe paid for police verification for passport

Reported on March 1, 2017 from Bangalore , Karnataka  ι Report #155630

I had applied for a reissue of passport due to change of address, I got a message on 23 February 2016 from JP Nagar police station in Bangalore for verification of my identity .

I went to the police station at 2 pm on 27th February 2016 , with all my identification documents and met the person in charge Gangadhar. I submitted a copy of my e-Adhaar, bank statements of a year and relevant gas bills. After looking at my documents he said that he would come home for verification the next day.

He came home at 1:30 pm on 28th February 2016. He got the verification process done from my neighbor. He then came back inside my home to complete the other procedures. After completing it he said I have not provided all documents as per the procedure and hinted that he is usually paid Rs 500 for completion of this process. I didn't want a confrontation with him so I agreed and gave him the money. I got my passport but the process left a bad taste for me. I was taken aback by the officer's attitude and I request action to be taken against him.
