Bribe paid on leaving New Delhi Airport

Reported on January 1, 2015 from New Delhi , Delhi  ι Report #49228

I had arrived on a flight from Dubai, at approximately 3pm. I had collected my baggage and passed through immigration, and was walking towards the exit doors. Just before the exit doors, a police officer pulled me aside and towards a group of 3-4 other police officers. He asked me what was in my bag. I replied to tell him it was just clothes. He then persisted with this question, and asked me if I had come from Pakistan (I had not, I had travelled from the UK). He then repeated 'give money, give money', in Hindi. I felt threatened by his colleagues surrounding me, and gave him 1000INR to leave me alone.

I got the impression that this group of police officers were carrying out this little scheme on a regular basis, possibly targeting individual travellers. Disgusting behaviour and not a pleasant welcome to India.
