Bribe to have a case registered.

Reported on July 6, 2015 from Bangalore , Karnataka  ι Report #62637

I'd been to the police station in Magadi Road to file a case of lost phone. However, the inspector there refused to have a case filed. As soon as I told him it was about loss of a phone, he said I might as well forget about it as it cannot be found. It took a lot of coercion to have the case filed. And this wasn't easy. I had to pay him 500 to have the case filed, and I'm not even sure the case was filed. All he gave as an acknowledgement was a small slip in which he'd written in Kannada. He said details would be texted to my dad's phone number, but we received nothing. I went to a lot of places to have something done - I even visited the Cyber Crime branch in the CID building, but they refused to hear me out. I have my bank information including all user IDs and passwords and some very personal images which could be misused. I lived in fear and was depressed for over a month. I've now gotten over it, but the way the case was handles has left a lasting impression on me of the police.
