This office was regularly charging what they called "office costs" over and above the regular visa fee, for renewing a perfectly normal visa. Unless one agreed to the extra payment nothing would happen. The explanation given was that everyone in the chain of offices needed some incentive to do their part.... I was asked for 18000 but finally agreed to 4000 R on one occasion where my visa was about to expire. It was normal practice there. I believe the single worker in the FRO Dindigul has been replaced now.
