Had to pay bribe to get certificate of lost RC book

I lost my RC book the process to get duplicate involves getting certificate from police.
First day: i went to police to get certificate, they asked me to pay e-challan in mee seva office first.
Second day: i payed challan 235/- to mee-seva for lost RC favoring police
Third day: i got call from madhapur police station to come personally
the person in charge of giving certificate asked me to prepare some more notary work and straight away asked for 500/- (bundles of paper) as bribe to get required certificate.
I did not want to spend time here and there further to get my things done and want to quickly come out of this situation.
i know it's a small amount but, if police itself takes bribe than where citizens will go for help.
i am not adding senior officials of the department as i do not have trust weather they are also corrupt or not.
