Had to pay undue traffic fine

Reported on October 11, 2010 from Bangalore , Karnataka  ι Report #30320

I was crossing the signal near ESI hospital, in front of ABB office, on Whitefield Main Road. The signal that time was green but as I cam half way, it turned orange. I continued driving as I was half way through and it is legal to cross the signal in such circumstances. Immediately the traffic police stopped me and asked me to pay fine of Rs 100. I tried arguing saying that I did not break any rules but he said that it is going to government so I should not worry. Finally I paid the fine, I did not bribe him, but it was like legal harassment. And from my friends I came to know that the traffic police use this tactics at ESI signal and Big Bazar signal on Whitefield Main Road. So only option is to bribe them or pay fine even when we are the right side of the law. I generally follow traffic rule and have no issue in paying fine if I break rules. But this was really sad seeing traffic police taking undue fine.
