I paid bribe to get clearance for passport

Reported on August 19, 2015 from New Delhi , Delhi  ι Report #64849

Hi,

I'd like to share with you my story that My company offered me job position in US. I was very excited to join that. But to join that location I would need to get my passport ready. As I was living in Chankya place on rent. I applied for passport and my file get approved. They sent my file to Mayapuri Police Station for verification. I am not able to recall exact date but one day I was sleeping at my home and a Police inspector call me on given number in afternoon that I came here for Passport police verification.

He came to my home and I offered him some water/tea as usually we offered to every guest. After taking that he asked me clearly to give two reference person contact details who knows me here. I given him needful details but story doesn't end here.

He was waiting me to offer him something for his visit but I didn't offered anything other than tea. Finally he came to the point and asked me to give money for my visit. He said otherwise your file will not be proceed for clearance to next level. I got scared because I heard the so many cases when I was living there. So I offered him Rs.200 but he denied to take that amount. He said, I take minimum Rs. 500 for one file. If you can give that amount then I can approved and sign now. otherwise your file will not be processed. I was feeling helpless so he took Rs. 500 each family member from me. I couldn't find any other solution to get it done. However it's very shameful but It'd be great if our government can simplify the process for common man.

My recommendation would be to get it done through private agencies instead of Police if we really want to stop bribe.

As my contact number got deactivated so sharing old number because my new number related to US which is your form not accepting.

Thanks!
