In process of renewal of my passport I had to visit **********-east, kolsewadi police station. I was asked to bring 2 people in my locality to vouch for me that I did.
I presented all required documents. Then they started asking for some documents those even passport office didn't ask for. I felt it was irrelevant.
When I finished with sharing all documents which were not short in any form, the policeman shamelessly told me that I will have to pay fees (bribe) for it. (as if this has become legal now)
I later came to know from other people came for same purpose that they have flat charges of bribe of Rs 500/- to all. They don't spare anybody. From their attitude, it was clear that they are going to harras if I don't pay them. One guy updated that as he was only having 300, he was asked to bring 200 from home to complete process.
To my surprise, these people have bunch of files of such people every day and its everyday business for them. I am sure the senior inspector(who ultimately signs document) must be having lion's share in total bribe amount though its asked by his subordinate.
