I was directly asked to pay 15000 for registering my property

Reported on December 3, 2010 from Bangalore , Karnataka  ι Report #29533

It was June 2008 when I got a Job @ AOL India and I planned to buy a house. I decided to buy an independent house which was owned by one of my close friend's relative. The titles were clear and I didnt think there would be any problem going ahead with the property. My wife was 8 months pregnant then.

Since the property was finalised, I proceeded with the Loan formalities and still was running short of money to make up the amount. My family stood by my side and all of them shared my burden.

The Loan of Rs. 26Lacs was sanctioned on 8-8-2008 morning. We had to clear the titles from the bank as this was also under a Home Loan. We cleared the titles from the bank of the Owner and rushed to the registering authority. It was around 3pm by when we reached the place. My wife had not eaten anything from morning as we were busy with the bank process (As it was a shared loan.)

We were told that the time is up and we would not be able to register the property. So we had to travel back home and come back again on the following working day. i.e. 11-08-2008. We completed all the formalities and then suddenly one guy calls me to one of the rooms inside. I went inside with him and he asked for Rs. 15000/-. I said I dont have that much money. Unluckily I had withdrawn some cash that day for paying the bank fees.

I had to pay 10000 to that guy. And when we were called the next day for final processing, we were made to wait for long period of time even when it could have been completed in a few mins.

We were treated as if they didnt know us. Saying it was lunch time, we both had to wait till the lunch time was over and still more time till the concerned person came and gave us the documents.

This is what i went through. I am totally against paying bribes and never encourage them, but because my wife was pregnant and we had to travel the following day to native, i was force to do this. I can never forget this incident.

I just wish that we can make this entire process automated without the intervention of such currupt officials.
