I went to apply for a Marriage Certificate at Begur Sub Registrar Office. I asked for all the documents required and charges i need to pay for the certificate. I was told that they will tell me the charges once the certificate is done. I am not sure if the amount being charged was legitimate to be considered as a bribe but my understanding is to get the marriage certificate the charges should not be more than Rs. 250 INR/-
I paid a total of Rs. 800 INR which includes Rs. 700 INR to get the Marriage Certificate and additional of Rs. 100 to the Data Entry Operator who printed the forms containing bride, bridegroom, witness details.
The incident happened at Begur Registrar office.
Name of the officer -Not sure but sits on the common area with other employees.
