Paid Rs. 1,000/- as bribe to a Pune cop for letting me off

- Paid INR 1,000
I was driving merrily from Mahommadwadi in Pune onwards to the Express Highway. On a certain junction (that did not have a signal), I was signalled by a traffic constable (aka Paandu) to stop. I didn't have my driver's license with me, as I had submitted an application for a duplicate. I also didn't have the photocopies of the application. In a split second decision (which I regretted later), I zoomed off and did not stop. Generally, in Mumbai, traffic paandus do not follow you. However, this one wanted to make sure that he gets his daily quota of 'haraam ki kamai' anyhow. So he followed me on a motorist's bike. Once he stopped me, he barged into the back-seat and started screaming. As usual, he tried to scared me with warnings about vehicle impounding, trip to the police station etc etc.
However, I had realized by then that since I had zoomed off, he won't let me off with a small bribe. I first paid him Rs. 500/-. However, he did not relent. I then had to pay him another 500/-. Only then did he let me off.
One funny thing that he did was to try to act 'upright and honest' by taking down my name and the car number on a piece of paper. That was really funny because I knew that once he had taken his bribe, he couldn't care less if I was raping a woman or carrying a dead body or carrying AK47 rifles with me in the car.
