Reported on July 8, 2013 from Bangalore , Karnataka  ι Report #34837

To transport a bike via train, the railway bill is Rs.950 (I think charges went up in last couple of years) for which I got receipt . There will be an agent standing in front of the counter who dont allow you to get accessto counter. If you dont gather the support of other customers who want to book and act astute he shall suck additional Rs.300 for which Rs.100 goes to railway officer in counter. The workers over there scooped 650 rs for packing charges. They say they pay dividents to rail officers. After that loading labour demanded Rs.200 and I could get around with Rs.100. And when I got the bike from the another station again they demanded 100rs for unloading charges. Total I paid Rs.1800/- . By making a group on the spot , I could save Rs.300/- but they suck on packing charges. So go when you go, go with a roll of plastic rope , sack, knife and a carboard so that you shall pack yourself, make sure you have enough time in station to do packing. Charges can go much higher in future. Because this happens to many people for years - see the below mentioned post from antoher person
