I applied for the birth certificate of daughter in the City corporation office, Mysore. I got the birth certificate in local language (kannada) without any hassles. I needed the birth certificate in English as well. For this, I was told to write an application letter and get it signed from an officer. He made me to wait for half an hour. After glancing me (from top to bottom) for 2 to 3 times, he told to get it collected after 2 days. When I said I need it today as I will not be in the city, he told me to wait outside and he will call me. My friend who accompanied me signaled that he is expecting some money. After half an hour I went inside. I asked him directly Sir, Do You want some money? He said Yes. I gave him Rs 50, which he gracefully declined and asked for Rs 100. At that time, there were few people. He asked them to go outside, took Rs 100. He personally handed the birth certificate with in 5 minutes.
I really did not want to give money. But, I had no choice but to give.
