Registration of marriage

Reported on November 22, 2010 from Bangalore , Karnataka  ι Report #29813

We were asked to pay up for the registration of our marriage, a process that should be pretty straightforward given that Bangalore is the IT capital of India! Not! The official cost is INR30, but that has several caveats. You are required to procure a box or two of sweets in order to appease the hungry officers and file-pushers.

The alternative is to pay up to INR2000 for a 2-hour wait, some rather silly questions about completion of forms (in triplicate - ahh! that great British legacy - THE FORM!) and a meeting with the sub-registrar who asks some more sill questions like - Do you live overseas? And tries to make conversation whilst you wait for that all-important rubber-stamp!

What is your reaction after reading this report?
