Standard Rate for passport verification (WTF)??

I had to pay Rs 200 to get police verification for passport. I was told its the standard rate, everyone knew that you have to pay Rs 200 for verification. I believe the rate is same in different states, you might get away with less if you say you are a student. but you have to pay.

Worst part the police office was sitting on my application he never bothered to inform me that my application has arrived or anything. And for the great job he was doing he got a reward from me.
