Tatkal passport verification

Reported on September 7, 2010 from Bangalore , Karnataka  ι Report #30836

This happened at the Basweswaranagar police station. After two days of visiting the police station and not finding the constable at the desk, I finally managed to get hold of him early in the morning. Outright asked for Rs 500 before even looking up the paperwork. I was in urgent need of a replacement passport to get back to the US and resume grad school. At least, he finished all the paperwork and got the work done on time. This Rs 500 was in addition to other small amounts paid at the Passport office to get my paperwork processed. It is easier to get a new Indian passport abroad than in India itself. Talking to others found out that Tatkal applicants are charged Rs 500 whereas normal applications are only charged Rs 300. Shame on the cops for taking advantage of people's helplessness.
