I am from Mumbai and I was working in pondicherry in 2005. To travel in the city I hired a bike. Once on the signal the traffic police stopped me and asked for my licence. i showed him my Maharashtra state Licence. seeing that I am not a local he started asking a lot of questions in tamil, which i did not understand. He literally started shouting and creating a commotion. With wild gestures and loud noise he succeeded in frightening me. I tried to ask what is his problen in english but he could not or pretended not to understand. He signaled to come to the police station. I was in a fix as the bike was not mine and this guy was just taking advantage of my situation. He made me wait for half an hour and then demanded 100 rupees (In english?) I was really desperate and just wanted to get this wretched guy of my back. We started negotiating. Till the last end I felt stupid because I did not why the hell was I negotiating with him in first place? I paid him 50 just to get rid of him as I was not able to understand what he was talking and the fear he might write all sort of false things against me in his report which i will not be able to defend!
