Cops seem to be getting used to the idea of bribe refusals
I got pulled over by a cop for not wearing a seat belt. Unfortunately, all my documents were in a bag at home since the car had come back from being serviced and I forgot to put them back. (both of these are clearly my fault)
The cop showed me on his Blackberry clearly that the fine for not wearing the seat belt was Rs. 100, and the fine for not being able to produce the DL was Rs. 400. I asked for some leniency, explaining why the DL wasn't there. He suggested I pay Rs. 100 for the sealt belt fine and Rs. 100 to him. I said no, I'd rather pay the full fine then. He didn't bat an eyelid, quickly printed up the total fine, and I paid him.
Just a little less grime on the soul, but it feels good anyway.
