Traffic violation for taking a U turn where I am not supposed to

Reported on June 20, 2011 from Bangalore , Karnataka  ι Report #31794

I took a U turn at the junction between Arikere Signal and Gottigere. A traffic policeman stopped me and asked me whether I have all the car documents. I did not have the insurance form, since it was in my company and i had forgotten to keep a copy of it in the car. The policeman said that the fine for the U turn is Rs300 and that for not having insurance was Rs.300. I maintained that I need a receipt. They tried to convince me not to pay the whole amount and get away without the receipt. Finally, they agreed for the receipt after a lot of pleading from my side (I am very ashamed of myself that I could not stand forth for my right to get a receipt and had to plead to him).

The fine for the violation was only Rs.100 and he gave me a receipt for it. They took down the number of my car for the insurance thing, threatening something that I didnt really understand. So, not only were they trying to get a bribe from me, but also lying about the amount of the fine.

What's your reaction?
