Didn't pay bribe for faulty challan by traffic police in Dwarka, New Delhi.

Reported on August 24, 2011 from New Delhi , Delhi  ι Report #31573

I had gone out with my friends to buy some beer on a Friday night in Dwarka, New Delhi. Since the shop is near by I did not carry my wallet, phone etc. with me. When we reached in front of the liquor shop I saw there were lots of policemen there. As I parked my car a traffic policeman kept watching me and then approached me and said - do you have license? I said: No, I left my wallet at home. He asked if I had any xerox copies of documents which I had in the car and I gave him. He asked me to come out and took me to a policeman who was nearby writing challans on his motorcycle. The first policeman gave my photocopies to this policeman and said: Make challan. He parked in the wrong place. At this I got very angry and started asking - Is there a no parking board there? Where are the policemen on other days and how come they suddenly appear on the weekend? If this was no parking then why didn't the policeman stop me but instead stood there waiting for me to park? I was told that if I gave Rs.50 then I could go but I was in no mood to give money. I made a lot of hue and cry saying that they were waiting like hunters to suck money out of common people. That they were looting their own citizens and I could not even get out of my house in my own country without paying a bribe etc. A small crowd started gathering after which the policemen let me go. But as I was going I saw that they had falsely challaned a motorcycle fellow. I hope this stops.
