Fine amount quoted : 600 rs, discount offered :300 rs( if paid as bribe), actual fine : 200 rs

Reported on July 6, 2012 from Hyderabad , Telangana  ι Report #31297

Dear all,
I m an Indian who has seen the maximum number of bribe requests by Indians.
I was travelling by my car through old city in hyderabad ....where animals have a better civic sense than humans ...
after confirming the directions and the correct way to park my vehicle , i took a neat U turn and was heading towards the parking lot available there... when i was caught by a traffic policeman ...saying i was going in wrong direction
-there were 3 commuters travelling in front of me who were let off...indicating that people were using it as a legal U turn
-i confirmed the route with 3 different people
-there was no bloody sign to indicate if a U turn was not allowed

in any case the policeman said i would have to pay a fine of 600 ... after arguing for a certain amount of time ....which was like shouting at 2000 decibels at a stone deaf man ...i failed to convince the guy what i did was perfectly legal driving ...and to avoid further argument i finally decided i will pay the fine and asked them to get the challan receipt ...the guy took me to a group of senior traffic policemen ... who asked me to " pay 300 and run away from there " ( the exact words used by the senior police officer ). i said .. i want a receipt that i paid fine . he said " are you stupid ? you will have to pay 600 rs . now pay 300 and get out " ....when i insisted i want to pay it legally ... they took mw to the nearby traffic police station ... and the first guy was telling about my so called stupidity " moron wants to pay a fine legally " to every one who was around .

and on the final receipt i was charged 200 rs.

and the best part is : the maximum fine amount for any traffic offence is 500 rs : for talking on cell phone while driving etc..\

so what the traffic policeman did to me felt like :
a merchant quoting a price of 600 as if he was selling me the finest piece of carpet i have ever seen in my life ...and giving me an exorbitant discount of 50 % by reducing it to 300 if i pay it in the form of a bribe and then when the actual MRP is noted on the carpet its just 200 and no carpet in his shop is actually >500 rs

now tell me what should be done to the people here ? :(((
