I have admitted mistake,Dint pay bribe

I was new to that area in Pune..I crossed the One way road from wrong direction and Traffic police whistled.At that moment I realized that I violated the rules. I came back to police and told that I will pay the fine. He started to negotiate that fine will be heavy etc.I told that I committed mistake,for that I can apologize and you can let me go or take fine,there is no mid way by bribing you. He left me to go without fine or bribe.
