Resisted bribe to traffic police

Reported on November 11, 2011 from New Delhi , Delhi  ι Report #31443

My car was towed away as I had parked where all others had parked (!!) but it was a no parking zone. On reaching the place where the towed cars are kept, the traffic police man first insisted that he had 'orders' to release the cars only after 5PM but seeing that I was a 'sharif' (honest) man he would release it now itself (11AM). He asked me for the RC, my DL and vehicle insurance. I only had RC as the other documents were kept at home. He said he can't release the car, but asked for 300/- so that he could put other persons details on the challan form and let me go. I said, I have a valid DL and Insurance and I would go home and get it. He made a lot of stories (hot and cold) and again asked me for 300/-. He didn't want to give me a receipt for this 300/- so I refused and started walking away. Reluctantly he then wrote out the correct challan forms and receipt for 300/- BUT still said that he was doing me a favour.
