Traffic Cop demanded huge fines. Let me go when I asked for receipts !
In one of the central locations in Bangalore near a shopping mall, there are many offices and restaurants and people coming from either directions enter a service road and park their vehicles on one side of the service road. There is no one way sign on either side entries of the service road. So, I was trying to find parking one day when one Traffic Cop (Constable) stopped my car. He asked me to pay Rs 700. When I asked if he would issue receipt, he asked me to show DL and vehicle papers. I showed both. Then he said my insurance policy is expired. I said it was renewed online and I don't have a hard copy with me. But, I can show him the soft copy if he wants. He said the fine is now Rs 1500 !
I told him very clearly that he can slap not one, not two but 10 violations if I have violated the law. But, I will only pay the fine if he issues me receipts and asked him to call his inspector colleague. After pretending to call the inspector over wireless and waiting for a few minutes, he realised that I won't budge from my stand.
So, finally, after about 20 mins of trying to scare me into paying up a bribe and my fighting all attempts, he finally let me go and that too without paying a single paisa !
Obviously, his intention was not to enforce the law but to do some self gratification.
