This thing happened in sept 2013 when I went to the RTO office to change the address of my driving license. I was in Bhopal when I got my driving license and I think everybody knows how people get their driving license in north India. I had paid a bribe of Rs 1200 to get my driving license back there. But, in south India, specially Kerala, things are quite different. I belong to a place called Chengannur and as I wanted to change the address of my driving license, I went to meet the RTO officer along with my father. When my father told him about this thing, that officer reacted in a very rude manner saying that the documents you brought are not in a proper order, why it is not attested and blah blah blah.....I was getting so angry because of the way he treated my father. Initially, I thought he wants us to grease his palms in order to get the work done. He told us to come tomorrow with all the papers and also bring the car as he will be checking my driving skills. I assumed that he was threatening us in order to extract some amount from us. But when I went their next day, I was amazed at what had happened. I brought all the documents and I showed it to him. Then he asked me whether I brought the car along.I said yes...its parked just outside. After looking at my confident side, he straight away signed the papers and told me that I would get my new driving license within 1 month and then afterwards he started asking me like what I do ..where I live ..and that too in a polite manner. It was the first time I got a job done without paying bribes to the government officials.
