Bribe for driving with learner lisence.

I have a learner lisence. I know driving properly. However I have not obtained permanent lisence till now. My car shows a large 'L' as required. However I was driving alone. (In India, a guide needs to be with you if you have a learner license. Mostly this is ignored)
I was by a traffic cop on Jothwara - Chandpole road near Hathi Babu Marg. There were at least three male officers in white shirts, though only one talked to me. He know from L sign that I was having learner license. It was clear from his flowery language that he expected to be bribed. He asked me about my work. I told him I was a teacher. He looked at my license and told me that fine will be Rs. 500. I asked him to be lenient since I am poor. He asked me for rs 200 bribe and let me go. I began to chat with him. He told me his name was Shyam Lal. I am not sure it was his real name. He was wearing his badge in a way that it was impossible to see his name. Wish I had a recorder.
